I feel like I talk a lot about sickness remedies.. Maybe its because I’m still adjusting to sick children at work and I haven’t quite built up my immune system to handle grade 1 students? Regardless, I’ve been out of work and stuck in bed for 2 days because of this flu! I love the idea of natural remedies for everything sonaturally I went that way for this nasty bug.
Here’s what I use!
- 2 cups Epsom Salts- the salts will get your magnesium levels back up and are known for releasing toxins in your body. Iain picked me up some citrus Epsom salts (what a guy) which I actually really enjoyed. I know lemons are good for digestion, so hey, who’s to say that doesn’t have added benefits to this soak?
- 1 cup Baking Soda- I like adding baking soda to my baths because it makes my skin super soft. That’s it really.
- 1 tablespoon powdered ginger or 1/4 sliced ginger root- I like ginger root because it’s fresh. Fresh is best! I slice up about a quarter of a root so it’s easy to clean up. The ginger kicks up the “sweat factor” which is what really helps release the bug. It’s also great for the immune and digestive system- again, added bonus.
Fill your tub with the hottest water you can stand to lay in. I HATE hot baths but I know it helps. Add all your ingredients and soak away for about 40 mins. The first little while you will sweat like crazy- that’s normal! Make sure you drink plenty of fluids to rehydrate. My potion today was Gatorade to get those electrolytes up (again, courtesy of Iain). Your bath water will eventually cool down and so will your body. The longer you can last in the luke warm tub, the more chances you won’t fall trying to get out. Trust me.
Disclaimer: I personally wouldn’t do this detox bath when I am full on tossing cookies. I couldn’t keep any liquids down so the thought of me rehydrating was out the window. This does make me a bit light headed so don’t do anything too strenuous afterwards!
Hopefully this helps you sweat it out!
